I'm passionate about marketing and I'm a lifelong learner so pursuing my doctorate was a perfect choice for me. I love to teach and interact with students as well as stay up to date with both academic research in marketing and learn what is new for practitioners. My DBA in Marketing is from Louisiana Tech University and I will always cheer for the La Tech Bulldogs.
I currently work as an Assistant Professor of Marketing at James Madison University where I teach Strategic Internet Marketing and Integrated Marketing Communications. The students in the College of Business are eager to learn which makes my job even more enjoyable. I'm also the Vice President of Development for the Academy of Marketing Science. For three years, I worked with two other professors to develop a Professional Development and Certification Program for teaching Digital Marketing. We held our first workshop at the AMS 2017 Annual Conference during which 40 professors and doctoral students completed our certification program. May 2019 was our third year of holding the workshop. We are taking a break in 2020 to work on other projects.
My previous academic appointments include Assistant Professor of Marketing at Georgia College and State University, Instructor of Marketing at Louisiana Tech University and Instructor of Marketing at Cameron University. I have taught undergraduate courses in Integrated Marketing Communications, Services Marketing, Retailing, Consumer Behavior, Nonprofit Marketing and Social Media and graduate courses in Promotional Strategies as well as New Product Development. When teaching a class, I try to bring in experiential learning to the classroom. I want students to learn skills that they can put on their resumes. I'm always looking for new ideas in bringing industry resources into the classroom. If you have suggestions or know about a resource not listed on my page, PLEASE contact me.
My research interests include Social Media and Digital Marketing, E-Commerce, Retail, Promotions, Nonprofits and Sustainability in Higher Education. I have published in Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Consumer Marketing, and Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services. I have presented at the annual conferences of The Academy of Marketing Science, Marketing Management Association and Society for Marketing Advances. I have co-authored a book chapter in Sustainable Water Use and Management and I'm a contributing author to the (2016) Social Media Marketing 2nd Edition by Cengage. Currently, I have so many research projects that I can't keep track of them all. Hopefully, these projects will lead to some new publications in the near future!
I have consulted for small businesses, nonprofit organizations, churches, political campaigns and military units. My experience includes event planning and fundraising, developing strategic marketing plans, and conducting survey and focus group research.
I live in the Shenandoah Valley which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I feel incredibly blessed to call home a place that others come to for a vacation. When I'm not working, I'm spending time with my daughter. We love to travel, follow politics, and cook. I live less than five miles from a ski resort but my idea of a vacation is time on the beach. I have four rescue cats which puts me just outside of crazy cat lady status. My impossible dream is to someday Beat Bobby Flay. Until then, I will continue to work, eat, play, and watch cat videos on YouTube.

I earned this certification along with my students!
