I'm passionate about marketing and I'm a lifelong learner so pursuing my doctorate was a perfect choice for me. I love to teach and interact with students as well as stay up to date with both academic research in marketing and learn what is new for practitioners. My DBA in Marketing is from Louisiana Tech University and I will always cheer for the La Tech Bulldogs.
I currently work as an Associate Professor of Marketing at James Madison University where I teach Strategic Internet Marketing and Omnichannel Retailing. The students in the College of Business are eager to learn which makes my job even more enjoyable. I'm also the Director of Programs for the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) which is my fourth position over seven years on the Executive Council. In 2021, The Academy of Marketing Science awarded to me the The Harold and Muriel Berkman Award for Faculty Achievement and Development.
My previous academic appointments include Assistant Professor of Marketing at Georgia College and State University, Instructor of Marketing at Louisiana Tech University and Instructor of Marketing at Cameron University. I have taught undergraduate courses in Integrated Marketing Communications, Services Marketing, Retailing, Consumer Behavior, Nonprofit Marketing and Social Media and graduate courses in Promotional Strategies as well as New Product Development. When teaching a class, I try to bring in experiential learning to the classroom. I want students to learn skills that they can put on their resumes. I'm always looking for new ideas in bringing industry resources into the classroom. If you have suggestions or know about a resource not listed on my page, PLEASE contact me.
My research interests include Social Media and Digital Marketing, E-Commerce, Retail, Promotions, Nonprofits and Sustainability in Higher Education. I have published in several journals including Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Consumer Marketing, and Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services. A list of my journal publications can be found on my publications page. I serve on the Editorial Review Boards for the Journal of Business Research (JBR) and the Journal of Marketing Education (JME). I am the co-editor for a special issue on social media marketing education for JME.
Teaching digital marketing can be a challenge and I find one of the best ways to keep up with industry is have hands on experience. I served as the Director of Social Media for the Academy of Marketing Science from 2015-2018. While serving as the Vice President of Engagement (2020-2022), I launched a webinar series, created content (videos and education materials) for a professional development program called Fundamentals of Marketing Education available to members only. Now, I'm serving as the Director of Social Media for the Journal of Business Research. I created the brand guide and strategic social media plan before launching accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. I'm excited to see the development of the journal's online presence.
After contributing two chapters for the 2nd edition of Social Media Marketing: A Strategic Approach (2016), I was asked to join as a named author for the 3rd edition which was published January 1, 2022.

When I'm not working, I love to cook and travel and I even made the turtle cheesecake shown in the header image. One of my favorite ways to spend time is to make foods from different countries and cultures so we eat a lot of different cuisines in our home which my teenage daughter is always happy to try. At home we love to watch cooking shows and my impossible dream is to someday, Beat Bobby Flay. After joining the faculty at James Madison University, I became a fan of JMU football. Watching either the Bulldogs or Dukes play on a Saturday is my favorite Fall activity. I even made it to JMU's debut into the Sunbelt Conference. That was a memorable game to see the newbie, JMU, beat App State and knock them out of their Top 25 spot. Go Dukes!
I currently have four rescue cats which my family says if I ever have five, I'm officially a crazy cat lady.
